Acai Bowls

Acai Bowls

We love Acai Bowls. If you’ve never had them, maybe it’s something you should go try…today.  Lots of places offer them now, such as Jamba Juice, Nekter Juice Bar at Dana Park, Thrive, etc. All you have to do is google Acai Bowls and you’ll be presented with multiple options. The best acai bowls we’ve ever had are from a little place on Ocean Beach in San Diego. Every time we go to California, we make sure to stop and get one on our way home (along with lunch from Hodad’s, which we eat sitting on the beach and it’s always the best day ever! But that’s for another post.)

Well, since we don’t live in San Diego, or even California for that matter, and we haven’t found any acai bowls in Phoenix that we love as much, we make our own!

Here’s how you do it…

You’ll need:
– A large container- We steal a few of the {free} deli containers from the super market by the olive bar.
– Sambazon Smoothie Packs – 51ShVRvyjML._SX425SX425_SY445_CR,0,0,425,445_PIbundle-28,TopRight,0,0_SX425_SY445_CR,0,0,425,445_SH20_They had them at Costco for a while, you can also check Trader Joe’s. If you can’t find the frozen smoothie packs, buy the juice and put it in an ice cream maker to make it into sorbet. Also, found sometimes at Costco, Walmart, and grocery stores- found in the refrigerator section.
– Sliced Strawberries
– Sliced Banana and blueberries (optional)
– Your favorite granola
– Honey

Here’s what you do:
1. If you’re using the frozen packs, use apple juice and blend together using the directions on the packaging.
2. Put your Sambazon sorbet into the bottom of your container. Don’t be shy.
3. Add your granola on top of the sorbet. A good couple of inches worth.
4. Pile a whole bunch of sliced strawberries on top of that.
5. Add some bananas and blueberries if you’d like.
6. Drizzle honey over the top! This is the most important step and makes it what it is! It’s so good. After you drizzle what you think is a good amount, drizzle a bunch more and that’s about how much I use.

The result is a healthy, delicious, filling, and amazing treat.  We’ll eat them for breakfast, dessert, and anywhere in between.

Give it a try!

So since the juice is easier to find than the smoothie packs, you could take the juice and freeze it in ice cube trays or breast milk storage bags and it’s like making your own smoothie packs!! Genius. Oh, and for making your life easier, don’t forget to invite me over for Acai bowls!
