Acai Bowls

Acai Bowls

We love Acai Bowls. If you’ve never had them, maybe it’s something you should go try…today.  Lots of places offer them now, such as Jamba Juice, Nekter Juice Bar at Dana Park, Thrive, etc. All you have to do is google Acai Bowls and you’ll be presented with multiple options. The best acai bowls we’ve ever had are from a little place on Ocean Beach in San Diego. Every time we go to California, we make sure to stop and get one on our way home (along with lunch from Hodad’s, which we eat sitting on the beach and it’s always the best day ever! But that’s for another post.)

Well, since we don’t live in San Diego, or even California for that matter, and we haven’t found any acai bowls in Phoenix that we love as much, we make our own!

Here’s how you do it…

You’ll need:
– A large container- We steal a few of the {free} deli containers from the super market by the olive bar.
– Sambazon Smoothie Packs – 51ShVRvyjML._SX425SX425_SY445_CR,0,0,425,445_PIbundle-28,TopRight,0,0_SX425_SY445_CR,0,0,425,445_SH20_They had them at Costco for a while, you can also check Trader Joe’s. If you can’t find the frozen smoothie packs, buy the juice and put it in an ice cream maker to make it into sorbet. Also, found sometimes at Costco, Walmart, and grocery stores- found in the refrigerator section.
– Sliced Strawberries
– Sliced Banana and blueberries (optional)
– Your favorite granola
– Honey

Here’s what you do:
1. If you’re using the frozen packs, use apple juice and blend together using the directions on the packaging.
2. Put your Sambazon sorbet into the bottom of your container. Don’t be shy.
3. Add your granola on top of the sorbet. A good couple of inches worth.
4. Pile a whole bunch of sliced strawberries on top of that.
5. Add some bananas and blueberries if you’d like.
6. Drizzle honey over the top! This is the most important step and makes it what it is! It’s so good. After you drizzle what you think is a good amount, drizzle a bunch more and that’s about how much I use.

The result is a healthy, delicious, filling, and amazing treat.  We’ll eat them for breakfast, dessert, and anywhere in between.

Give it a try!

City Moms Blog Network

If you’re a mom, this is one of the best things when it comes to blogs.  The City Moms Blog Network has unique sister blogs for different cities around the country. You can find events, great offers for moms, and fun things to do around your city.

Here’s a little bit about how it got started…

“In 2010, two friends, Steph Flies & Joy Cherrick, started Scottsdale Moms Blog out of a desire to connect moms in their community. They saw a need for moms to be able to share local information, recommendations, and build friendships all from the convenience of their mobile phone, tablet or computer. Shortly after, women all over the country began approaching them to do the same thing in their cities. City Moms Blog Network was formed and has since been launching Sister Sites everywhere to connect moms in their community, both online and offline.”

I happened upon the Moms Blog for my area by accident.  Last holiday season we were having lunch on the patio at one of our favorite restaurants. As we were eating we saw that something was being set up right next door and then all of  sudden, out walks Santa!  He was waving to the kids and then took a seat in his fully decorated photo area. After we ate, we went over and found out that for $10 you could get your photo with Santa (by a professional photographer) AND do a fun craft, have cookies, and hot cocoa. WHAT!? It pretty much costs ten dollars just to walk past the Santa at the mall. So Mason got the sweetest photo with the big guy, we had a great time, and the photos were emailed to me a few days later for my sharing and printing pleasure.

Now, I’m pretty sure the event wasn’t put on by the Moms Blog, but thats the kind of stuff they tell you about!

For example, did you know that Costco is having an event for MOMS where you can get in an hour early to get some holiday shopping done along with giveaways, treats, etc.?!  Well, they are! You’ll have to check out their blog for more juicy info. www.citymomsblog.com

You can see if they have a Moms Blog for YOUR city here: http://citymomsblog.com/our-sister-sites/

And if they don’t, you can contact them and YOU could start one for your area! Let me know if you do, because that would be completely awesome.

By the way, if you live in AZ and still haven’t tried The Soda Shop, it’s time. I become more addicted every day. In case you missed that post, you can read about The Soda Shop and some of our other favorite food places here.

How Do You KEEP Your House Clean?

Cleaning the house is fine. I mean it can be a little bit difficult when you have children, or a dog, or a husband. But still, it’s fine. It’s the KEEPING it clean that really gets you. If you missed my post about cleaning routines you can read it here. You can also get a copy of the cleaning routine I created and {try to} use each day.

Then I found this post from simplemost.com and it made perfect sense. The 12 Habits of People with Homes That Are Always Clean. Twelve…I guess I can try to make at least half of those work for me! Seriously, shooting for all twelve seems like I’d just be setting myself up for failure. I get it though. There are just some things that IF you can do them every day, your house stays so much neater.  I always tell my husband that cleaning and straightening are two different things. If the house is straightened up, meaning toys and clothes are put away, the sink is empty, counters are clear, etc., then it just looks and feels so much better. It’s ok if there’s some dust bunnies, but just having the “stuff” cleaned up makes a huge impact. How many of these twelve do you do?

Favorite Things Friday #2

WAM favthings2

Here’s a few of my current favorite things. Round 2!

  1. High Fitness– This is an intense workout class that is so much fun! You are moving and dancing around the whole time, listening to great music, and pushing yourself to really feel the burn! You can check out if there’s any classes near you by going to their website at highfitness.com. I am seriously addicted!
  2. Keep Collective Brushed Silver Pendant– I recently became a designer for Keep Collective- a sister company under Stella and Dot.  One of my favorite pieces is this pendant necklace. I have the silver, but the gold and rose gold are gorgeous too! You can choose whatever keys (charms) you want to put on your pendant to fit your personality. I have the script word “love” on mine and every time I look at it, I love it even more. You can check out all the Keep Collective jewelry by clicking here to go to the website!
  3. The Dunkin Donuts app– Dunkin Donuts has proven they are here to push Starbucks around a little bit. If you like coffee and still don’t have their app, you are missing out! They offer a free medium hot or iced coffee the day after our Arizona Cardinals win, and last week I saw that they also give app members a free coffee the day after the Diamondbacks win at home! The app is FREE, you just have to add at least $2.50 to your account when signing up. I’ve also received free coffee coupons for filling out surveys. They are awesome and know how to keep you coming back. My favorite drink choice is the medium iced decaf mocha coconut with cream and one Splenda.  (I know, decaf!? But since I’m still nursing I try to cut back on the caffeine when I can.)
  4. Vans Classic Slip-On baby socks– We originally bought these when M was born three years ago and he wore them all the time. Now H is wearing them and they’re just as cute as ever! Everyone comments on them about how awesome they look. At $28 for six pairs, they are a great little splurge for something fun for your little one or a way cool baby shower gift for a friend. You can buy them online here.
  5. Once Upon a Time– Are you watching this show!? We finally decided to give it a try and we are so glad we did. The fourth season just premiered last week, but we just started watching from the beginning a couple weeks ago. Fairytale characters, great story lines, it’s so much fun to watch. We just began season 2, so don’t give anything away! But really, if you haven’t watched, you can start now and then we can talk about it! It’s on Netflix so get started right away. 😉

I hope you’ll try some of my favorite things, and as always, share some of your favorite things with me!  Maybe I’ll see you at a High Fitness class!

PicMonkey

picmonkey

Many people ask me what program or site I use to edit and create all different kinds of images.  My response is always the same…PicMonkey!

PicMonkey is a FREE site that you can use to design, create, and edit images. You also have the option to upgrade to a Royale membership, which I highly recommend, for around $35 a year. As amazing as all the FREE content is, the upgrade gives you even more. I think it’s completely worth it.

Here’s just a few things you can do with PicMonkey…

edit photos– crop, change exposures like brightness and darken, sharpen, soften, add filters, airbrush flaws, reduce wrinkles, whiten teeth, touch up makeup, etc.

create your own designs– using your own photo or starting from scratch, you can create your own images easily. All of the graphics I make for awifeandmom.com are made using PicMonkey. You can add text, images, overlays, colors, borders, anything! They always have the most fun and hip graphics to add to your creations and seasonal extras are always being added and updated. Spooky themes for Halloween and festive ideas for winter. I love them all!

I also use PicMonkey to design invitations and announcements.  Start with a blank design and create with images, fonts, and colors until it’s perfect, then print them out at a photo center in 5×7 and you’ve just made the easiest and most adorable invitations! They also have collage options.

Did I mention that PicMonkey is SO easy to use? I promise you, you can do it, even if you’re less than tech savvy. Go check them out and fall in love with their site and services!
Update: PicMonkey now has a mobile app!! Yessss!

Share with me! Tell me about your favorite creative photo editing program or site!
